The splitter is much longer, at least several inches, and always extends above the height of the blade, even at the fully raised position. The main difference is the length of the riving knife is much shorter than a splitter and is always at a lower height than the maximum height of the saw blade. and then took a few deep breaths and closed up for the evening after watching a 10" square piece of ply fly across the room and smack the wall, thankfully only the wall. To finish a small project with the smoother cut, I boldly took out the riving knife. Am I perhaps totally misunderstanding the situation or should I just stick with full kerf blades. The blade that came with the saw is thicker than the riving knife, so I was able to adjust the riving knife in line with the saw blade.Īre there options for thinner riving knives, ways of setting up the thin kerf blade. The knife being thicker than the kerf slightly pushes the work to one side or the other depending on the adjustment. I found that it does not work well with my standard riving knife. As I wanted finer cuts than the blade that came with the saw would give me I purchased a thin kerf higher tooth count blade. I have a Dewalt Contractor's saw, DWE 7492, European 220V version of 7491. ![]()
